Verizon Fios, the company’s fiber-optic network, appears to be experiencing blackouts in many places on the east coast of the United States.
There are over 22,000 user reports of issues with Verizon on Downdetector, and there appear to be hot spots on the Downdetector outage map for Verizon in Boston, New York City, Washington, DC, etc. A few Edge staff members are also experiencing breakdowns.
Many people on Twitter are also reporting problems with their Fios service. Verizon’s support account responded to some people reporting issues, say that he was “informed of a potential blackout in the region”. The account also said that there was a cut fiber in Brooklyn, which could be the cause of the problems for some.
We have been made aware of a potential outage in the area and our technicians are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. You can visit https://t.co/MFnsE6wLnF for updates once the issue is confirmed.

People have also reported issues with Google, Zoom, Gmail and more on Downdetector, but the reports seem to be coming from the same places that are having issues with Fios. Google and Zoom’s status pages do not indicate any outages, so it’s possible that issues with these services on the East Coast could be related to the Fios outage.
We’ve asked Verizon for comment, and the company says they’re reviewing it now.
