Verizon softens iPhone subsidies to compete with the competition

(Reuters) – Verizon Communications said on Friday it was increasing its subsidies for Apple Inc’s new iPhone 13, in a bid to attract more customers to the US operator’s network.

Verizon said it would now offer take-back grants of up to $ 1,000, matching rival AT&T Inc, up from $ 700 previously. The biggest grants will go to customers who hand over the iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 models.

Apple’s new line of iPhones are priced unchanged, but carriers are using aggressive subsidies to keep existing customers and attract new ones.

The phones will also have 5G antennas and custom radio components for faster speeds. This push to expand 5G connectivity comes as telecom companies in the United States rush to bolster their 5G infrastructure.

The iPhone 13, starting at $ 699, promises a better display, longer battery life, and a cinematic mode to automatically change focus when shooting videos. It will come with a new A15 Bionic chip which enables features such as automatic text translation. All models will be available from September 24.
