KNOXVILLE, Tennessee (UT ATHLETICS) – Former Tennessee running back and former NFL scout Reggie Cobb died Saturday at the age of 50.
Cobb, originally from Knoxville, Tennessee, played for Flights from 1987 to 1989 and ranks 11th in UT history in terms of rushing yards (2,360), tied for 7th position for touchdowns (26) and 12th in attempt (445).
Cobb scored 20 goals in 1987 scoring 20 touchdowns. He was honored in the second SEC team in his first season on Rocky Top. His 1721 multipurpose yard this season was the UT record until 2012.
Cobb was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the second round of the 1990 NFL draft and spent seven seasons in the NFL, including a 11,171 rushing season for the Bucs in 1994.
After his stint in the NFL, Cobb enjoyed a brilliant scouting career for the 49ers, the Washington Redskins and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In particular, he was named Scout of the Year by the NFC in 2011.
He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Tennessee in 1999.
