Vicarious Visions is working on a Diablo 2 remake

Earlier today, Activision ad Tony Hawk 1 + 2 Professional Skater the developer Vicarious Visions had been absorbed by Snow storm to provide support for future projects. Hours later, we now know that one of those projects is a Diablo II remake.

According to Bloomberg, Vicarious Visions supports Blizzard Team 3—who is also responsible for the next Diablo IV—For several months developing a 2000s remake Diablo II, by far the most popular game in the RPG franchise.

The remake was originally the responsibility of Team 1, the group responsible for very disparaged Warcraft III: Reforged, before the project was finally transferred to Team 3 last year. Team 1 has since been disbanded, with some employees transferred to new jobs at Blizzard and the rest being laid off.

Upon hearing the news this afternoon, social media was inundated with fears that Vicarious Visions would be taken away from its own plans only to disappear under massive Blizzard initiatives like World of warcraft and Overwatch. It remains to be seen if this is the best use of the studio’s talent after its success with Tony Hawk’s professional skater, this is probably a better result than many expected.
