A Jewish man was attacked Friday morning on his way to a Brooklyn synagogue, a vicious act that later prompted Governor Andrew Cuomo to ask state officials to participate in the investigation.
The anonymous victim was on his way to Flatbush Synagogue around 5:45 a.m. when two men wearing balaclavas and masks beat and robbed him before fleeing, police said.
Blood could be seen splattered on the sidewalk after the attack.

“This couple violently assaulted and robbed a local resident on their way to Shul this morning,” tweeted Shomrim, a group of Orthodox Jewish civilian patrollers, with video of the attack. The group offered a reward of $ 1,000 for any information leading to an arrest.
Shomrim later posted a video which she said showed “the faces of the couple”, thanks to the efforts of volunteers.

The group has asked anyone who recognizes the suspects to contact NYPD Precinct 63 or call Shomrim at (718) 338-9797.
Cuomo spoke out against the latest anti-Semitic violence and said he would have the New York State Police Hate Crimes Task Force to assist the NYPD with its investigation.
“It’s outrageous,” the governor tweeted. “To our Jewish community – I know it’s exhausting. No one should have to worry about being attacked for their religious beliefs, ever. “
Anti-Semitic attacks and hate crimes in general have increased this year, the New York Post reported.

Anti-Semitic attacks are up 69%, accounting for 113 attacks this year compared to 67 last year, according to records.
