Chris Van Vliet interviewed Vickie Guerrero for his YouTube channel and had an interesting discussion about Chris Benoit and his place at WWE. Van Vliet began by asking if she thought we would ever see him inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
"I do not think so, because it does not even exist with the WWE when it comes to documentary or story. It's a sad situation.I loved Chris Benoit. His family was our family. His wife Nancy, we were close friends Their son, Daniel … you know, we were all very close, I was not there when it happened, I do not understand why, but I love him He was … apart from all that, he loved us and he respected us.
Van Vliet goes on to make a particularly strange comparison, stating, "I have just felt that the WWE is a place where there is often a lot of forgiveness. We saw it with Shawn Michaels, we saw it with Bret Hart. Obviously, different situations, but maybe if time passes, maybe some of these injuries will be healed?
Guerrero replies by:
"I would like to see that, and most of all, Chris Benoit was a talented wrestler and he had his own legacy, and I think it should not be ignored." It's sad to see how things went, but I would like to see him inducted into the Hall of Fame. "
It's a matter of endless debate, the idea of ever separating Chris Benoit, the wrestler who had a hellish career in the ring, from Chris Benoit, the man who murdered his wife and son before suicide. That said, the WWE Hall of Fame is not a legitimate Pantheon, in the broadest sense of the word. It's literally a simple tool that Vince McMahon uses to make money. Even if you can separate the two, as difficult as it may be, an induction into the WWE Hall of Fame would not be to honor one's wrestling career.
This should make the whole argument irrelevant.
Something tells me it's not right.
