Authorities in Wisconsin said Sunday that a 13-year-old car theft suspect, as well as a driver who shot the girl trying to escape, will both face criminal charges.
The shooting took place around 5:30 p.m. Friday, after Kenosha police said a person left a moving vehicle unattended at a gas station on 50th Street and Sheridan Road. A young woman allegedly stole the car and was walking away when the owner shot the car, hitting the girl, police said.
The girl, who has not been named by the authorities, was taken to the children’s hospital. She remained hospitalized on Sunday, the Kenosha Police Department said in an update shared on Twitter, also announcing that the 13-year-old will be charged in juvenile court.
The adult who shot him remained in detention on Sunday on a single charge of recklessly endangering first degree security. Police did not disclose whether this person was male or female.
Fox News requested another update early Monday, but did not immediately receive a response.
Kenosha, a town of about 99,000 on Lake Michigan, made national headlines last August as protests erupted over the police shooting against Jacob Blake during a call for domestic disturbances. The black man remained paralyzed from waist to toe. It wasn’t until January that local prosecutors announced their decision not to indict the officers involved – and Blake later allegedly admitted he had a knife at the time.

Kyle Rittenhouse, who was 17 last summer, reportedly came to Kenosha from his home in Antioch, Ill., Last August to answer a call from a local militia to protect businesses amid the unrest civilians. He opened fire on a crowd, hitting three protesters and now faces a slew of charges – although he has repeatedly claimed he fired in self-defense.
