Cubs catcher Victor Caratini will be scanned tomorrow on his left hand, the club told Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times (Twitter connections) after tonight's match. X-rays revealing a possible fracture of the hamate, it is feared that Caratini will hit the plateau for a moment.
Caratini obviously suffered the injury in the middle of what turned out to be a productive plaque appearance. But it may be his last day before June. Hamate breaks are usually accompanied by an absence of about a month or two.
Fortunately, it is also a fairly common hit in the batters, which usually does not lead to long-term problems. But some think that there is exhaustion of power for a certain time when a player returns.
