Tyler Thal, who lives in the area, told The Associated Press he was out for a walk with his family when he noticed a large commercial plane flying abnormally low and pulled out his phone to film it.
“As I watched him, I saw an explosion, then the cloud of smoke and debris falling from it. It was like a spot in the sky and looking at that, I tell my family what I just saw, then we heard the explosion, ”he said in a telephone interview. “The plane kind of went on and we didn’t see it afterwards.”
Thal was relieved to learn later that the plane had made a safe landing.
A video posted to Twitter by a woman who claimed to be the daughter of people on the flight showed the engine completely engulfed in flames as the plane flew through the air.
