FIGHT ISLAND – MMA fan favorite Amanda Ribas appeared to be knocked out twice in an upset loss to Marina Rodriguez on Saturday.

Ribas first fought in the UFC in 2019 and embarked on a four-game winning streak at the leading mixed martial arts firm – a run that included a decision against Mackenzie Dern and an armband submission on Paige VanZant.

The Brazilian fighter took a lot of momentum and hype in her UFC 257 strawweight match against Rodriguez at the Etihad Arena on Fight Island, and although she performed well in the first round, she was defeated in the second.

Ribas managed 34 of 52 first-round strike attempts (33% accuracy), but was only able to hit Rodriguez once after the break as she relinquished her authority in the fight.

Rodriguez threw a multitude of fists, one knee and an almighty right that sent Ribas clumsily across the canvas.

This initial reversal may have prompted some referees to stir the fight, and even Herb Dean – the official of that fight – stood above Ribas as if to separate Rodriguez from the fallen fighter.

However, the fight strangely continued and Rodriguez attacked with aplomb, knocking Ribas down in a daze.

Finally, the end of the contest was announced and Rodriguez had won.

Watch the end here:

With the win, Rodriguez advanced his professional MMA record to 13 wins (six knockouts, one submission and six decisions) from one loss.
