Conor McGregor probably picked the right sport.
The former two-division UFC champion joined the ranks of MMA fighters to throw a ceremonial first pitch in a Major League Baseball game on Tuesday, taking the mound before the Chicago Cubs did welcome the Minnesota Twins to Wrigley Field in Chicago. And while McGregor may have been the best dressed man on the pitch, his prospects as a big league pitcher don’t look very bright after a pitch that sailed far from his intended target.
Video of McGregor’s first pitch can be seen below.
McGregor isn’t the first MMA fighter to wrestle on the mound. Earlier this year, UFC heavyweight Derrick Lewis had a first pitch during a Houston Astros game that drew comparisons to rapper 50 Cent’s disastrous outing in 2014.
And at least one of McGregor’s other lightweights, UFC contender Justin Gaethje, couldn’t help but rejoice at what he saw from the Irishman on Tuesday night.
“I can’t help but laugh at this” Gaethje wrote on Twitter. “All the MMA fighters who represented us doing this look terrible, but it takes the cake.”

McGregor remains on the mend after sustaining a broken tibia in his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. He is expected to return to the cage sometime in 2022.
