According to the FAA, the single-engine plane took off from Alexandria Municipal Airport and was scheduled to land at the Flying Cloud Airport in Eden Prairie when it crashed at 5:40 p.m. and crashed into a vacant lot and a house.

It is not known how many people were on the plane, but MPs say everyone on board was killed. No one on the ground was injured. NTSB investigators say the plane involved is a Mooney M20M.

The NTSB is now working to determine exactly what caused the crash. The Carver County Sheriff said there was debris in two places, at the site along Highway 5 and then in an area to the south.

“This is a tragic event for friends and family, and for everyone involved,” said Sheriff Jason Kamerud.

Video from a neighbor’s security camera shows the plane hitting the ground before exploding into flames in the vacant lot and skidding toward the house. The video also shows people running to help after the crash.

MPs are calling on members of the public to avoid the area while the investigation is ongoing. The sheriff expects Highway 5 to be closed for some time.
