Graffiti artists struck several cars of an M train, damaging them completely from top to bottom with colored tags and causing tens of thousands of dollars in property damage, the MTA said on Wednesday.

Video posted to Instagram on Monday shows the subway train – with cartoon-like characters and depictions of a skyline exposed through a brick wall – skirting the tracks of an elevated Big Apple station not specified.

Authorities discovered the vandalism around 6:50 a.m. Monday, according to the MTA.

The vandals apparently hit the train at a so-called drop-off area in Queens near Forest Hills-71st Avenue station, which is the NYPD’s responsibility to patrol, the transportation agency said, noting that the he incident had been reported to the police. .

The graffiti train has since been taken out of service.

“Vandalism costs New Yorkers – it deprives customers of service while cars are cleaned, it forces transit workers to clean up graffiti rather than doing their usual chores, and it costs taxpayers money that could be used to improve the service, ”MTA spokesman Shams Tarek said in a statement.

“We are cooperating with the NYPD in their investigation of this latest case of trespassers causing tens of thousands of dollars in damage, and we will seek redress from anyone found guilty.”
