A woman who was trapped in a partially submerged vehicle was rescued this week after the car left a pavement and fell into a Florida river, officials said.

The dramatic rescue in Melbourne on Tuesday morning was caught on police camera. In the video, a man is seen in the car trying to keep the woman’s head above the water and tells the officer to break the glass. “She’s going to die,” he said.

The driver had no pulse and was not breathing after being removed from the Hyundai, which was on its side with the driver’s side completely underwater, police said.

Police performed CPR until the firefighters took over and the woman could breathe on her own and was stable, police said.

The first officer arrived at the scene after someone reported him and told him a car had fallen into the water, police said.

In a statement, police did not mention the cause of the crash, and a police spokesperson could not be immediately reached on Wednesday evening.
