It wouldn’t be a good Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reunion without the original Aunt Viv, who arrives for a “candid chat” with Will Smith in a newly released trailer for the highly anticipated HBO Max special.
As previously reported, Janet Hubert, whose behind-the-scenes issues with Will Smith led to his untimely departure as the original Vivian Banks, has agreed to sit down with Smith for the next special, which is scheduled to premiere on Thursday 19 November. The preview, which was released on Friday, features footage of Hubert on the field at Warner Bros. – and audible gasps from her old TV family when they find out she’s back.
the Fresh prince Special was filmed in September and marked the 30th anniversary of the iconic NBC sitcom. Besides Smith and Hubert, the reunion includes Tatyana Ali (Ashley), Karyn Parsons (Hilary), Joseph Marcell (Geoffrey), Daphne Maxwell Reid (Aunt Viv # 2), DJ Jazzy Jeff (Jazz) and Alfonso Ribeiro (Carlton), all gathered in the bank lounge.
Sadly, James Avery – who played the beloved patriarch of the Philip Banks family – passed away in 2013. He is remembered in the video above, while Smith recalls the classic scene where Will realized his absent father had left him for the second time. “I just wanted him to think I was good,” Smith says. “I fall into his arms at the end of the scene, and he holds me… The picture comes off and he whispers in my ear, ‘Now this is acting.'”
the Fresh prince reunion follows recent announcement Bel-Air reboot, which received an immediate two-season order, straight to Peacock series. The dramatic re-imagining (which counts Smith as an executive producer) is based on a viral Morgan Cooper parody trailer (which you can watch here).
