A Dallas man was arrested in connection with the beating of a transgender on the outside of a complex of apartments.

On March 12, the victim, identified by Muhlaysia Booker by the WFAA, told the police that she had been assaulted after being involved in a minor road accident.

In a video recorded by a passerby, Booker is surrounded by a crowd of people watching her as a man hits her and hits her. Booker also told the police that the crowd had shouted homophobic slurs during the attack.

Eventually, the others took part in the attack, which resulted in Booker being hit and dragged through the parking lot of the apartment complex. The video ends with three other women helping Booker get up.

Booker was then taken to a Dallas area hospital where police questioned her about the assault. Although the attack occurred during the day, police met Booker only at 11:23, police said.

I am extremely angry at what seems to be a collective violence against this woman, "wrote Rawlings. "I am in contact with the Chief and she assured me that the Dallas Police Department was investigating thoroughly, including the possibility that it was a motivated crime. by hate, those who did not represent what the Dallasites think of our flourishing LGBTQ community support this kind of behavior. "

Leslie McMurray, coordinator of education and transgender advocacy at the Dallas Resource Center, described the attack as disgusting.

"It's quite terrifying," McMurray, also a transgender, told WFAA. "You could just feel the energy and the malevolence of this crowd intensifying as violence ensued and that no voice was rising to say that it had to be done." # 39; stop.

"There is no reason for our lives to be worth less than anyone else or that we have to be someone's punching bag just because we are transgendered." . "
