Denver’s Great American Beer Festival made a slight return to normal this year when the event’s signature awards ceremony was held in person, while the festival part was canceled for the second year in a row.
After a pandemic-induced hiatus in 2020, representatives of the Brewers Association returned to the Colorado Convention Center, with a limited number of masked spectators, where they announced the winners of the coveted medals of the nation’s most prestigious beer competition. The host state has done a commendable service.
The judges rated 9,680 beers from over 2,000 breweries nationwide. Colorado beer makers have won 21 medals in a wide range of categories, including historic beer and chili beer. Colorado won 26 medals last year at the 2020 Virtual Awards Ceremony. Our Mutual Friend Brewing was Colorado’s biggest winner with two medals, including one gold.
The Centennial State notably swept the American fruit beer category, which graced recipes from Lone Tree Brewing Co., Great Divide Brewing Co., and Crystal Springs Brewing Co. which took bronze, silver, and gold respectively. gold.
