Few teams have perfected the art of heartbreaking defeats like the Minnesota Vikings, and their radio team received / issued another recall on Sunday.
In the dying seconds of a thriller against the Arizona Cardinals, Vikings kicker Greg Joseph lined up for a 37-yard field goal that would have given his team the game. The Vikings had just gone through an eight-play, 58-yard practice to reach what should have been an achievable field goal distance.
Joseph missed it wide to the right, but a member of the Vikings radio crew thought otherwise. Until it’s struck with a sobering hint of reality:
A quick transcription:
“Loud snap, pose. Joseph, come on! And it’s … GOOOOOOOOD! No, he missed it.”
“Are you kidding me? He missed it. Oh my God. Oh … oh my … that …”
“What a punch for a team, Paul, who game after game towards the end struggled to come back.”
“Ugh, I missed it by a foot.”
As heartbreaking as it sounds, imagine Vikings fans listening at home and in their cars momentarily thinking their team had achieved a huge victory. The Vikings are now 0-2, and most NFL fans will tell you that few 0-2 teams have made it to the playoffs in modern NFL history.
