Virgin Galactic just successfully sent founder Richard Branson to the edge of space and back, and now the company is also giving you the option to take the trip on the company’s space plane. After Sunday’s flight, Branson announced that Virgin Galactic has partnered with fundraising platform Omaze to open a raffle that will send the winner and a friend on a space flight.
The winner will take a trip in the VSS Unity space plane, the same plane that Branson traveled. You’ll also have a visit to Spaceport America in New Mexico from Branson himself, “with my Willa Wonka hat on,” Branson said. (“And I promise a lot of chocolate in the factory,” he joked.)
The raffle is also a fundraiser for the nonprofit Space for Humanity, and the more you donate, the more entries you get (although the fine print indicates that the maximum number of entries for one person is is 6000). You can also submit an entry without donating if you wish.
The draw ends on September 1 at 2:59 am ET, and the winner will be announced “around” September 29, according to the website. Among other restrictions, you must be 18 or older to participate, and the winner and their guest will need to prove they are vaccinated against COVID-19 to be eligible to win the raffle.
The “experiment” is expected to take place in early 2022.
