Virginia hit-and-run kills police officer on leave

A 33-year-old Henrico Police Department veteran was killed in a hit-and-run accident while off duty in Virginia on Saturday, authorities said.

Donald Lambert, Jr., who was the department’s special operations captain, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic and untimely loss of Captain Lambert,” said Henrico police chief Eric English said Saturday.

“He was a selfless leader, mentor and friend who served our community with pride and dedication for almost 34 years. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, colleagues and friends.
