Virginia lawmaker shot dead teenager who stabbed him, police say

APPALACHIA, Va. (AP, WDBJ) – State police said a Southwest Virginia deputy shot dead a 16-year-old boy after the teenager stabbed him in a confrontation.

The incident took place on Saturday afternoon near the Appalachian community in Wise County during a search for two missing minors.

The injured MP was airlifted to a Tennessee hospital for treatment.

The 16-year-old boy’s remains were taken to a medical examiner’s office for an autopsy. A 13-year-old girl who was with him was not injured.

Police did not immediately identify anyone involved in the incident which occurred near Dunbar Road. However, police confirmed that the teenagers were the people wanted by authorities.

An investigation is underway.
