A man from Virginia who showed police unauthorized inauguration ID at a checkpoint along the perimeter securing downtown Washington, DC, prior to inauguration day has been arrested after the discovery of a gun and hundreds of rounds of ammunition in his vehicle, police said.
Front Royal’s Wesley Allen Beeler pulled into a security checkpoint in North Capitol Street and E Street Northwest around 6:30 p.m. Friday in a white Ford 150 truck with Virginia tags and gun-related decals, according to US Capitol Police records.

The truck Beeler was driving was decorated with gun decals, including those that said “Assault Life” and “If they’re coming for your guns, give them your bullets first.”
Police said Beeler presented unauthorized identification. Authorities did not immediately provide more details on the type of documentation Beeler allegedly tried to provide.
When the credentials did not match a list of people allowed to enter the dedication area, United States Capitol Police officers conducted further research.
A gun with a large capacity magazine inserted and ammunition was found in the vehicle, police said. The weapon has not been registered in Washington, DC, police said.
Police said they also found “509 rounds of 9mm hollow point and ball ammunition” and 21 rounds of 12 gauge shotguns.
Beeler was arrested and taken to the United States Capitol Police Headquarters for treatment.
Beeler is charged with carrying a concealed weapon, possession of an unregistered firearm, illegal possession of ammunition and possession of a high capacity ammunition supply device, according to DC police.
