A Virginia sheriff’s deputy shot dead a black man last Wednesday about an hour after the same deputy drove him home, according to reports.
Isaiah Brown, 32, was on the phone with a 911 dispatcher when the MP intervened at his home following reports of a “domestic incident,” according to a police statement.
The body camera video appears to show the deputy yelling at Brown to show his hands and “drop the gun.”
The officer, who has not been identified, appears to be saying on his radio: “He has a gun on his head.”
The deputy then said to him, “stop walking towards me, stop walking towards me” and “stop, stop” before firing his gun at Brown.

Brown was taken to hospital after the shooting, according to the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office statement. Family members said he was in intensive care with 10 gunshot wounds, WRC-TV reported.
Brown’s attorney David Haynes said in a statement on Friday that the officer mistook a cordless phone for a gun. He said Brown was unarmed at the time of the shooting and “had no weapon more than 90 seconds before the deputy arrived.”
“It is evident that the tragic shooting of Isaiah Brown was completely preventable,” said Haynes. “The deputy in question made multiple basic police errors and violated established protocols. The deputy was located nearly 50 feet from Isaiah, was never threatened and should not have discharged his gun. “
The same MP drove Brown home after Brown’s car broke down at a gas station earlier today, the station reported.

Brown later called 911 to report a dispute with his brother. He is heard on the call saying that his brother will not let him into his mother’s room in the house and that he could not get in his car. The dispatcher also tells Brown that his car has broken down and has been towed away.
At one point, Brown appears to be asking his brother for a gun. Her brother refuses.
“I am about to kill my brother,” he said.
“Don’t kill your brother,” the dispatcher replied, before repeatedly asking Brown if he was armed. Brown said he didn’t have a gun with him.
Brown then told the dispatcher that he was walking on the road.
“How do you walk on the road with the house phone?” asks the dispatcher.
“Because I can,” Brown replied.
Shortly after, a deputy arrived to find Brown on a nearby road, bodycam video shows. The deputy exits the vehicle and orders Brown to show his hands and “drop the gun.”
After gunfire, the MP is heard helping Brown.

Sheriff Roger L. Harris said the deputy was put on administrative leave.
Virginia State Police are investigating.
