Famous American children’s author Dr Seuss is now considered too controversial for one of Virginia’s largest school districts, a new report reveals.
For more than two decades, Dr. Seuss’ birthday has been celebrated in schools as Read Across America Day – a day dedicated to the importance of reading and literacy. The day falls on Dr. Seuss’ birthday in honor of the hard-hitting author, whose books have helped countless children learn to read across the world.
But following pressure from activists, public schools in Loudon County are reportedly dropping Dr Seuss’ annual celebration.
“Recognizing that many schools continue to celebrate ‘Reading Day Across America’ in partial recognition of Dr. Seuss’ birthday, it is important for us to be aware of research that may challenge our practice. in this regard, ”Loudoun County schools said in an ad reported by the Daily Wire.
“As we become more culturally and racially sensitive, all building leaders should know that in recent years research has revealed drastic nuances in the books written and illustrations drawn by Dr. Seuss. The school district continued.
Learning for Justice, a liberal education advocacy group, is believed to have been behind the lobbying campaign against the famous children’s author. The organization sees itself as a group that seeks to “support the mission” of the left-wing Southern Poverty Law Center, according to their website.

Learning for Justice cited a study from St. Catherine’s University which claimed that Dr. Seuss’ books are covered by “Orientalism, Anti-Darkness and White Supremacy” in a magazine article they have. published.
The group also claimed that the non-white characters in the books were “subordinate” to the white characters.

This is not the first time that Dr Seuss has been targeted for cancellation.
Former First Lady Melania Trump hit back at a Massachusetts elementary school librarian in 2017 who claimed that illustrations in Dr. Seuss’ books – usually cartoon animals or fantastic creatures – were examples of “propaganda racist”.
Loudoun County Public Schools did not immediately respond to Fox News’ request for comment for this article.
