A Virginia Tech engineering professor who has been banned from campus can now return, but the reason for his ban has still not been revealed to the public.

According to the Roanoke Times, 50-year-old Willem "Hardus" collected more than $ 100,000 in wages during the ban, which began on December 15, 2017 and ended last week.

Virginia Tech spokesman Mark Owczarski said the associate professor of permanent electrical and computer engineering would continue the research he had done in the past, but details of his role were not clarified.

Neither Owczarski nor Odendaal would explain the reason for the ban, but Owczarski said the Virginia Tech police no longer thought the professor was a threat. He said that Odendaal had not been arrested by the campus police.

Odendaal's statement states that he works with the directors "positively to resolve past disputes".
