Start blowing up Metallica’s “Enter Sandman”. The Virginia Tech Hokies have just added one of the nation’s top running backs to their 2022 recruiting class as four-star running back Ramon Brown announced his commitment to the Hokies on CBS Sports HQ on Friday.

Brown is a 5-foot-11, 202-pound running back from Manchester High School in Midlothian, Virginia. He is ranked 19th among running backs in the 2022 class according to the 247Sports composite ranking and the 190th player overall.

Brown is Virginia Tech’s 18th Class of 2022 engagement and is now the highest rated member of the group. His commitment propels the Hokies class to 15th in the country. Plus, as 247Sports’ Evan Watkins wrote, Brown is now the sixth highest-rated running back rookie to commit to Virginia Tech.

It’s also a significant commitment from the point of view that when the program was at its peak, Virginia Tech dominated recruiting in the state. That has slipped a bit in recent years, as the top talent in the state has gone elsewhere than Blacksburg too often in the eyes of Hokies fans. Brown’s commitment gives hope that the trend may start to shift in Tech’s direction.

Here is Dohn’s screening report on Brown:

Has a frame to become a power runner to complete the speed. Travel 55 meters in 6.81 seconds. Quick feet with the possibility of changing direction. Good vision in the hole. Elusive behind the line of scrimmage. Works with power. Sets up blocks well in an open field. Has a good stiff arm. Works with a low pad level. Must continue to add strength. Developing more as a wide receiver is important. Multi-year starter on the Top 20. NFL Draft Potential on Day 3.
