As a Top247 offensive lineman Gunner’s Gifts sorted by his options, the star of Daleville (Va.) Lord Botetourt kept coming back to the same idea.

He grew up watching Virginia Tech, went to games and always envisioned playing for the Hokies which will be his next stop.

The 6-foot-5, 270-pound Givens has announced to CBSSports headquarters that it has signed up with Virginia Tech. His other finalist was Penn State.

“I’m going to stay home and I’m going to Tech,” Givens said. “Really the main thing was to feel at home and to be so close to home, I want to play for the people who made me and supported me from day one.

“I grew up as a Tech fan. It has been my dream to be a Virginia Tech player since I was a kid. It is surreal for that to happen.”

Givens is the # 4 indoor offensive lineman in the industry-generated 247Sports Composite. He will be the second-highest-ranked offensive lineman (Doug Nestor was No.1) to sign with Virginia Tech when he does so in December.

“The reason is that the school is 35 minutes from the house, my family can come to every game,” he said. “To me that is really the most important thing, honestly. Being so close to home was a big thing for me.”

The same goes for Givens’ relationships with the players and coaches of the program. He made several visits to the campus in June.

“I really feel comfortable with them,” he said. “The coaches are amazing. Me and the (offensive line) coach (Vance) Vice, we have a really good relationship. I feel like I was born to play for Coach Vice. coach. He’s a serious guy, That’s just who I am as a player. I like to work. “

Givens had an array of offerings and his top six from Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson, North Carolina, Penn State and Virginia Tech were all intriguing options.

However, those were Penn State and Virginia Tech, and the location won out.

“To be from here and grow up here, and just to be from here, it means the world,” Given said. “It’s the most surreal feeling. Going to games when I was a kid and feeling that atmosphere, and even being in the stands, I would get goosebumps when ‘Enter Sandman’ came up and you could feel your heart beating. I know when I walk through this tunnel, it’s gonna be the craziest feeling ever.

“Just committing myself there, it’s really crazy for me. I worked for it, but I can’t believe it’s my life.”
