Danielle Burnett, 29, of the city of Lake Havasu, Arizona, died when the Park Rangers arrived at the scene and was declared dead, said National Park Public Affairs Officer, Scoot Gediman, in a statement to CNN.

The incident is under investigation.

One of Burnett's family members, posted on Facebook, confirmed the loss: "It's with a broken heart that to inform you that our beautiful Danielle left us yesterday doing something that she loved so much … it will take time. "

The last death on the famous Half Dome took place in May 2018, when a hiker slipped and fell in dangerous weather conditions. This was the first incident since 2010.

A hike not for sensitive souls

Half Dome sits at 4,737 feet above the Merced River on the floor of the Yosemite Valley in California.
The most famous tourist site in Yosemite is a round trip of 14 to 26 km that ends with a cable of more than 400 meters that rises to the top of the rock formation, according to the park's website. A guide for hikers strongly recommends climbing the cables with caution and notes that "since 1919, relatively few people have fallen and died on the cables, but injuries are not uncommon for those who act irresponsibly".

Cables are only run from May to October due to weather conditions and a permit is required for trekking.

Since only 300 hikers are allowed to climb per day, when cables are used, licenses are based on a pre-season lottery and daily lottery applications. 75 of the 300 hiking sites are reserved for backpackers and those who spend the night on the trail.
