The Blue Jays got off to a quick start in a win-win game against the Orioles on Saturday afternoon, with MVP contender Vladimir Guerrero, Jr. hitting a two-run homer in the first inning. Here is an overview:
Man, that wasn’t cheap. It was a majestic shot from 450 feet. Of course, you could say that about a lot of his home runs this season.
On Sunday he also showed how much he was going the other way.
Do 48 circuits during the season for the youngster. His father’s Hall of Fame career high was 44. This is Vlad Guerrero’s uncharted territory!
It’s also now a record, given Guerrero, Jr.’s age. If we only sort out players in history in their season 22 or under, here is the all-time leaderboard.

Sadly, the Guerrero Blue Jays missed the playoffs by just one game, although it wasn’t for lack of trying on his part.
Guerrero ends the season with .311 / .401 / .601 with 29 doubles, 48 homers, 111 RBIs and 123 runs. He led the AL in runs, base percentage, slugging percentage, OPS, OPS +, total bases and scored runs. He is tied with Salvador Perez for the home run title.
After a somewhat disappointing first two seasons – and that’s only because the expectations were so ridiculously high – Guerrero had the breakout season many dreamed of watching him tear the miners apart. In fact, even with these very high expectations, it’s fair to say he’s been better this season than we thought.
Due to the existence of a guy who hits, runs and throws like an All-Star, Guerrero probably won’t win the 2021 AL MVP, but it has still been an unforgettable season, especially at his age.
