Voidpoint developer says he will not remove offensive material Ion Fury despite the recent controversy around the game.

In a joint article from Voidpoint and the 3D Realms editor titled "The Content of the Ion Fury Game Will Not Be Censored," they clarified the initial apology presented earlier last week, in which Voidpoint went back on the statements transphobic of some of his staff in his official Discord:

We provoked a recent controversy suggesting Ion Fury the content of the game was to be censored.

We will NOT absolutely censor Ion Fury or any of our other games, now or in the future, including, but not limited to, removing gags such as the most controversial face washing games.

We do not support the censorship of creative works of any kind and regret our initial decision to change a sprite in the game instead of trusting our instinct. 3D Realms and Voidpoint are united on this issue.

Last but not least, respect our need to keep our community forums free of hate messages, spam or off-topic topics. We recognize our mistake and have received your message loud and clear!

The content to which the publisher and the developer refer relates to a few controversial lines of text that can be found in the game in different ways, including with a facial cleanser bottle labeled "OGAY" instead of " Olay ".

Another example was more hidden and required the use of cheats to access it. This particular example, however, has since been deleted and has been defended by Voidpoint as a mere communication error by a developer who is not English-speaking.

The decision to publish today's statement comes after the assumption of an "attack on criticism". Ion FuryThe Steam page of, and in a statement provided to Polygon, 3D Realms clarified the reasoning behind keeping the bottle "OGAY" and removing the reference "fagbag":

However, the soap bottle will not be removed.

The use of the word "f * gbag" in an inaccessible area without hacking the game, and which was added by a developer without the permission of someone else, was removed a few days ago. We apologize again for this text because it does not reflect the values of 3D Realms or Voidpoint.

Jokes at the expense of marginalized communities will not be present in future games released by 3D Realms. However, part of our community made it clear that removing 'Ogay' was censorship and should be protected by free speech. Voidpoint wanted to listen and we respected that decision.

In last week's apology, Voidpoint pledged $ 10,000 to the LGBTQ nonprofit organization The Trevor and introduced a zero-tolerance policy for "this type of language". Polygon also confirmed that 3D Realms and Voidpoint intend to honor these promises.

Some of the comments made in Voidpoint's Discord that initially sparked controversy in recent weeks are listed below.
