Vokswagen Tarok Pick-up
Volkswagen first considered the possibility of returning to the US market for pickup trucks at the 2018 New York Auto Show by unveiling the Tanoak concept based on its Atlas three-row sport utility vehicle.
The Tarok concept, which will be showcased this week at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York this week, had already been revealed at the Sao Paulo International Motor Show in Brazil late 2018, but it is showcased in the United States for the first time.
It measures 193.5 inches, bumper to bumper, about 21 inches less than the Tanoak concept. The Toyota Tacoma, the industry leader with 245,659 sales in the United States last year, measures between 212.3 and 225.3 inches, depending on the configuration of the body and the bed.
Despite its small size, the Tarok is designed to support a payload of up to 73.2 inches. However, it is slightly longer than most current mid-size trucks can fit in their bed. To achieve this, VW explained, the rear seats as well as the panel that normally separates the passenger compartment from the loading surface fold down, thus extending the cargo space.
