Drugstore chain Walgreens Boots Alliance said on Wednesday it had administered more than 29 million Covid-19 vaccines in its stores so far, due to an increase in parts of the United States that had fallen behind. in vaccinations.

Vaccine administration has increased by more than 30% in states such as Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Kentucky in recent weeks, the drugstore chain said.

The company, one of America’s largest drugstore chains, said in June that it planned to administer 28 million vaccines this year.

Walgreens also said it has made masks mandatory for its U.S. employees and demanded that staff working in U.S. support offices be fully immunized, the latest company to update policies as Covid-19 cases increase in the USA.

New guidelines from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that recommend that fully vaccinated people wear a mask as well as increasing cases due to the more infectious delta variant have led companies to rethink their policies.

Walgreens said Wednesday that it is also encouraging all customers, including those who are vaccinated, to wear masks.

He said the vaccination mandate, which requires employees to be vaccinated by September 30, does not apply to U.S. employees working in stores, distribution centers or other facilities.

Tyson Foods, Microsoft and the Big Three Detroit automakers also updated their vaccination and masking policies on Tuesday.
