Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg quietly bought $ 59 million worth of real estate in Lake Tahoe.

That's according to an exclusive Wall Street Journal report released Thursday.

According to The Journal, Facebook's founder has used limited liability company, wealth manager and privacy agreements to try to protect transactions from public view.

The report notes the juxtaposition of technology pioneers' efforts to protect privacy and Facebook calls to ensure greater user privacy. Zuckerberg has announced a series of new features designed to improve privacy Tuesday at an event in San Jose.

According to the newspaper, Zuckerberg bought two private properties on the west coast of Tahoe, south of Tahoe City.

The first property that he bought is known as Carousel Estate. It was one of the few prominent Tahoe properties that landed on the real estate market in 2017, as the Tribune reported at the time.

The Journal reports that Zuckerberg purchased the property for $ 22 million, or $ 7.5 million less than the listing price announced by the Tribune in November 2017.

Zuckerberg's second purchase, according to The Journal, was the historic Brushwood estate on the west coast of Tahoe.

Although the newspaper quotes sources claiming that Zuckerberg focuses on less prestigious properties, Brushwood attracted attention when it was released, with publications on SFGate.com and elsewhere.

When the property made waves in the Tahoe real estate market in December 2017, it amounted to $ 45 million, announced the Tribune at that time.

Zuckerberg bought the Brushwood in January for $ 37 million, according to the newspaper.

Both properties are located in the same street. Sources told the Journal that Zuckerberg had expressed some interest in buying a third property in the street.
