Senator Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., Reminded us Wednesday that he had roughly the same economic meaning as President Trump on Twitter. The Socialist Senator attacked Walmart as a company that "pays a lot of employees to starvation wages …"
This is another example of Sanders' penchant for the Chernobyl Economic Theory School: taking good ideas and blowing them up. But as usual, Sanders is clearly wrong.
After all, Walmart provides jobs for hundreds of thousands of people – including many minorities and many women – and an average salary of $ 14.91 for its field workers. It's hardly a starvation salary. But Walmart also gives priority to social mobility in its job structure: to offer those who have not had the chance to attend large colleges the opportunity to become very comfortable. At the same time, society is making basic necessities more affordable for US consumers.
So, why does Sanders hate Walmart so much?
Well, we must assume that it is because Walmart offers a model of proof of the best morality of capitalism. Sanders can not stand this reality. He seeks a world closer to one that defined his former favorite model of government, the Soviet Union. Or, in other words, in a dark world in which the government reserves a smaller and smaller cake, as well as an increasingly suffering people. A world not that of Walmarts, but that of groceries defined by few choices and many shortages. A world like socialist Venezuela. This socialist land that Sanders once greeted is now literally defined by the one he accuses so absurdly of Walmart: the famine of children and immense suffering.
