Walmart's new service, InHome Delivery, delivers fresh produce directly to home refrigerators for buyers and garages.

Customers place an order for groceries online, select Home Delivery and choose a delivery time. The owner receives an alert when the delivery person is near his home and can watch the delivery live or watch it later. On the microsite of InHome Delivery, Walmart wrote, "You will be able to see the whole process, from opening your door to storing your refrigerator, through every step, until our partner leaves and Locked.

InHome works similarly to the Amazon Key delivery service. Among the differences:

  • Amazon Key requires owners to purchase an indoor security camera and a compatible smart lock. Owners provide temporary access to courier services, guests or non-Amazon services such as dry cleaners and dog walkers. Customers using Walmart's InHome should ask the company to install a smart lock outside their home or garage, and the device specifically supports the retailer's delivery service. Walmart's delivery men have unique access.
  • Amazon Key couriers drop parcels inside to prevent theft of items. Walmart InHome Delivery is designed for fresh groceries, with deliveries delivered in the refrigerator.
  • Mail using the Amazon Key system may come from third-party delivery services. Walmart InHome Delivery couriers are exclusively Walmart employees who must have worked at the local Walmart for at least one year to gain access, which is their primary responsibility. In a blog, Marc Lore, president and CEO of Walmart e-commerce US, said that smugglers "go through a vast training program that prepares them to enter their customers with the same care and respect with which they would treat their friends home from home – not to mention the selection of the freshest groceries and the most efficient refrigerator organization. "

Customers may be able to leave items on the counter for return.

The service is being tested this fall in three cities: Kansas City, MO, Pittsburgh and Vero Beach, FL. Prizes will be provided closer to the launch.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS: What do you think about the potential of Walmart's InHome Delivery service? Do you think this gives Walmart a competitive edge in the home grocery delivery market compared to Amazon?

Confidence in the brain

"It looks like they've considered many options and that they're really trying to put customers at ease, but all that's needed is a bad title." and the mark is tarnished. "

"In addition to all the other comments about the obstacles to this service, what to do with the dog?"

"It's not a question of acceptance in 3 to 5 years, it will take between 10 and 15 years, and it will be largely driven by younger people who accept the systems and the technology."
