BURLINGTON TWP., New Jersey (WPVI) – An investigation is underway after a teenager was killed and his father was injured in a shootout in the parking lot of a South Jersey Walmart.

The shooting took place around 10:15 p.m. Thursday on the 2100 block of Mount Holly Road in Burlington Township.

A gun was found in the parking lot, police said.

17-year-old Albert Williams was shot and rushed to Cooper University Hospital, police said. He later died in hospital.

The teenager’s father, Dione Williams Sr., 44, was also shot dead. Police say he was treated and released from hospital. Both are from Hammonton, New Jersey

Investigators say the store was open at the time of the shooting. Al Cooper was walking towards the parking lot.

“I thought it was fireworks, firecrackers,” Cooper said. “Everyone was running. Everyone. It was scary.”

Viola Kemp from Beverly arrived at the store Friday morning. She was a former employee and said she received a call regarding the shooting.

“They just said someone got shot. People were shooting at each other in the parking lot,” Kemp said. “I’m glad I didn’t work there.”

The sight of Chopper 6 showed a heavy police presence at the mall.

It is not known if the victims had been inside the store before the shooting.

Police are checking store surveillance to find out more about what happened and to help them search for a suspect. The mobile is under investigation.

Buyers were surprised to see the scene of the crime when they arrived on Friday morning.

“It’s generally quiet here. It’s weird but everything happens,” said Tanell Lewis of Burlington Township.

“I have lived here for five years and have never seen a shooting. I’ve never heard of it, ”said Bree Campbell of Burlington Township.

Anyone with information is urged to call the police.
