Walmart is making its PS5 inventory available for purchase on its site in multiple time slots Thursday, but its site was overwhelmed by customers rushing to buy Sony Next Generation PlayStation during the first wave. CNET staff and people on social media said they had the console in their cart with shipping information before the site crashed and said it was out of stock.

A post on the Walmart site featured a photo of a dog wearing a pair of felt reindeer antlers and said, “Oh, deer. The whole North Pole is trying to save big right now, so please try again in a moment. . Yule loves our vacation deals. ”

The new console is should sell out quickly at all major retailers, but unlike some other retailers, Walmart does their PlayStation 5 inventory available in segments all day at 9:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. PT. Walmart offers the digital $ 400 version of the PS5 as well as the $ 500 model with Blu-ray.

On the second post at 12:00 PM PST, the site seemed to crash even faster, with the “add to cart” button not appearing for several minutes while the page was loading. Pressing the button then produced error messages, while reloading the page resulted in a “Unable to connect to server” message. When the page finally reloaded, a message saying “This item is no longer available and has not been added to your cart” appeared. Many others on Twitter have reported once again have the console added to their cart before it is deleted after a long charging time.

The same happened to potential Walmart customers during the third drop at 6 p.m. PT, with PS5 apparently selling in a few seconds.

On the fourth and final drop at 6:00 p.m. PST, customers complained that they were allowed to click “place order” to have to re-enter their Walmart account password and go. go through four separate CAPTCHAs – and at the time they popped. these hoops, the console was out of stock. A person on Twitter said clicked on “order” and even received a delivery date before receiving an error message.

Hundreds of complaints are piling up on Twitter, with people accusing the bots of taking over every set of consoles.

Walmart did not respond to a request for comment.
