In a new impetus, SolarCity, the subsidiary of Tesla, WalCity sues the renewable energy company, saying that the equipment installed on the roofs of some stores would have caused fires in at least seven sites of the supermarket giant .

According to the lawsuit filed today in the New York State Supreme Court, "Walmart had rented or licensed its Tesla rooftop terrace for the installation, operation and operation of the building. Tesla's maintenance of "photovoltaic" (ie, solar) systems, "in about 240 stores. As of 2012, many of these stores began to suffer from rooftop fires.

"At every place," says Walmart, "the fire originated in Tesla's solar panels."

Finally, in May 2018, after three fires followed one another relatively quickly, Walmart asked Tesla to disconnect all the solar panels on the roofs of its stores, which was done, according to the lawsuit. Nevertheless, two sites with SolarCity facilities have experienced rooftop fires anyway. Walmart says, in reference to a fire in Yuba, California, that "electrical wires on the roof of the store were still producing sparks by the time Walmart discovered the fire."

Tesla then carried out safety inspections in 2019, hoping to find a way to revitalize rooftop facilities. In doing so, he found 157 items to be replaced or repaired ", of which Tesla 48 itself qualified conditions reflecting the state dangerous or potentially dangerous"(The italics are underlined). Fortunately, it appears that none of the incidents resulted in serious injury.

This is not the first time that SolarCity is facing legal difficulties. A multi-year investigation revealed that the company had inflated the cost of several facilities that she had performed on behalf of the state of Oregon – which had cost her $ 13 million dollars in a settlement last October.

Tesla has not yet responded to a request for comment. Walmart declined to comment.

Walmart sues electric car maker and its solar subsidiary for breach of contract and negligence, and claims "an amount in damages equal to the residual value of the costs incurred and consulting fees related to the fires caused by the Tesla solar panel . "Although this amount is not disclosed in the lawsuit, the company claims to have suffered multi-million dollar damages directly as a result of the fires.
