In a statement released last month, Sony suggested the PS5 enjoyed the biggest console launch in history after breaking the PS4 record.

“We want to thank gamers around the world for making the PS5 our biggest console launch ever,” he said. “The demand for PS5 is unprecedented, so we wanted to confirm that more PS5 inventory will be arriving at retailers before the end of the year – please keep in touch with your local retailers.”

The Xbox Series X / S also broke Microsoft’s 24-hour launch record of over one million sales, according to the platform owner.

Xbox Series X / S retail

As with the PS5, demand for Microsoft’s console is expected to exceed supply for the foreseeable future, with Xbox chief Phil Spencer recently suggesting that Xbox Series X / S shortages will continue into spring 2020.

British tech retailer Box is holding votes to decide which customers will be able to purchase the new stock Xbox Series X / S when it goes on sale later this month.
