BOSTON (WHDH) – Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh said in a statement Wednesday evening that he was putting new Boston Police Commissioner Dennis White on administrative leave amid an investigation into “allegations graves ”which surfaced after he was sworn in on Monday.

“In an attempt to create a smooth transition and to honor former Commissioner Gross’ desire to spend time with his family, Dennis White has been asked to quickly assume the role of Police Commissioner, starting last Friday. “Walsh said in a statement. “These worrying issues weren’t known to me or my staff, but they should have been in the foreground. Upon learning of these serious allegations, I acted immediately, placing the Commissioner on administrative leave, while the company’s lawyer hired an outside lawyer to conduct a full and impartial investigation.

White was sworn in as the city’s 43rd Police Commissioner, replacing former Police Commissioner William G. Gross, who announced his retirement last month.

Chief Superintendent Gregory Long will serve as the Acting Commissioner while the investigation unfolds.
