CLEVELAND – Walsh University issued a statement following the collapse and death of one of its student athletes during the Cleveland Marathon.

Taylor Ceepo, 22, from Medina, graduated from Walsh University just a few weeks ago. She was part of the women's football team and earned a degree in biology with minors in psychology and chemistry.

Ceepo competed in the 42nd edition of the Cleveland Rite Aid Marathon Sunday morning and collapsed during the race. She was transported to university hospitals where she died.

Walsh University issued the following statement to FOX 8 regarding the death of Ceepo. It reads in part:

"It's my sad duty to inform you that a beloved member of our Walsh family, Mrs. Taylor Ceepo, collapsed today as she ran the Cleveland Marathon and she passed away. Taylor graduated a few weeks ago at the University of Walsh, with a specialization in biology and a minor in psychology and chemistry. Taylor was a member of the women's football team and was from Medina. Her mother, her friends, and her boyfriend (also a Walsh student) were with her. Our love and our deepest sympathies go to his family and loved ones. Your Walsh family will keep you all in prayer.

A Mass will be held at 8 pm Sunday in tribute to Taylor's life and raising the prayers for her, the Ceepo family and the Walsh community.
