Walt Disney World in talks to become COVID-19 vaccine distribution site

We learned yesterday that Disneyland Resort will become a super COVID-19 vaccination site. It looks like Walt Disney World could also host a vaccine distribution site, according to Gabrielle Russon in an update to her story with Orlando Sentinel.

Russon says Walt Disney World has offered to help the vaccination efforts in any way it can and is in talks with the state. Disney said its goal is to be a good community partner to help fight the pandemic.

State Emergency Director Jared Moskowitz confirmed during a virtual town hall with Representative Anna Eskamani that Walt Disney World has the capacity to store the vaccine in an ultra-cold freezer. “We don’t have any issues with ultra-cold freezer storage here in the state,” Moskowitz said. “There are a lot of hospitals with them. County health departments have them. Some universities do. Disney World has one. The Moskowitz department also purchased additional ultra-cold freezers.

Gov. Ron DeSantis has said vaccines may be dropped from Walt Disney World and Orange County schools. “They can eliminate that pretty quickly. And it’s a dose and it’s done. So I think it makes more sense with essential workers.

Moskowitz also spoke about the state not receiving enough doses of the vaccine and the logistical challenges that emergency service officials face. “Now I’m building infrastructure, and now we won’t be able to power the infrastructure because we don’t get enough vaccines,” he said.

Walt Disney World has been hosting a COVID-19 test site for several months, so vaccine distribution would be the next logical step. Continue to check WDWNT for updates.
