WandaVision does the impossible this week, bringing the Evan Peters version of Pietro Maximoff instead of Age of Ultronis in Wanda’s life.
For those without a brain programmed to contain every little detail of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Aaron Taylor-Johnson played Peitro Maximoff, Wanda’s twin brother in Avengers: Age of Ultron. We didn’t see him because Ultron killed him, but his absence was felt as Wanda occasionally remembers the past she tries to escape into. WandaVision.
Meanwhile, Taylor-Johnson Kick ass costar played Pietro Maximoff, the mutant and his son on Magneto, in several X Men movies. He first appeared in X-Men: Days of Future Past, although Wanda appeared as a much younger sister without any involvement in the films.
Now that Disney owns Fox, such a decision can be made, but is this the first of the X-Men of the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Is the multiverse already cracked? Or does Peters appear in Taylor-Johnson’s place just a fun Easter egg for those in the know?

Chief writer Jac Shaeffer added more context to the decision to bring in Evan Peters WandaVision in a conversation with Marvel.com:
We loved the idea of [bringing him back]. And then we were like, how the hell are we going to make that sense? Like, how do we justify this? Because that’s the trick, you can hatch a million great ideas, but to land them, to anchor them, to make them feel organic to the bigger story.
This show is such a mental muddle, and because it works on so many levels, and there are so many notions of what’s real and what’s not, about performance, about casting, audience, fandom, and all of that, we just thought it would be a great pleasure to bring Evan into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
We thought, how do you give her that input, then enjoy it, then drive her crazy? And we’ve had the idea of the sibling trope for a long time, or the parent, or whoever comes to town and loves, shakes things up with family – this sitcom trope.

We had supported it for so long and didn’t know if it would be possible. It was complicated to do. Evan was always up for it – like, always, always, always. He is a fan of comics and a fan of Marvel. He’s always up for the strangest option. And it’s a pleasure – a real pleasure to work with.
Everyone was really excited. I think Kevin [Feige, Marvel Studios president] wanted to make sure there was a reason for it, that it made sense. And I hope that’s what we did.
This is definitely not a confirmation that we are seeing the same character as in the Fox. X Men movies. It could just be a nod to fans, or maybe Feige is happy because of what he’s putting up, not just bringing the idea for the relative long-lost sitcom snap.
Damn that Marvel Studios! So secret. I guess we have to keep watching WandaVision to learn the truth.
