WandaVision director Matt Shakman reveals that the Marvel Disney + series once had 10 episodes planned, although it was later reduced to 9.

There was a time when WandaVision had 10 episodes planned instead of nine, according to director Matt Shakman. Marvel’s first Disney + series ended last weekend, and what an epic ending it was. WandaVision, which premiered in January, told the story of Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) as a result of Avengers: Endgame as they settled down to an idyllic suburban life. This premise, sweet as it was, baffled many fans, in large part because Vision was still dead and didn’t fit the bill for a typical Marvel project.

During its 9 episodes, WandaVision gradually unraveled her mysteries, revealing that in her grief, Wanda created a whole new Vision that could only exist in the rewritten reality she had sent to their city. The series also had other surprises up its sleeve, from the reveal of Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) to Wanda’s transformation into the Scarlet Witch. With so many things WandaVision made eight weeks (when two episodes dropped out of one day) in a flash. However, there could have been even more installments of the Marvel show.

Shakman just appeared on Kevin Smith FatMan beyond show to discuss the WandaVision finale and has drawn the curtain on how the series has evolved throughout the production process. According to Shakman, WandaVision was constantly evolving and even, at one point, had planned 10 episodes. However, this later changed for stimulation purposes. Shakman said:

“Well, yeah, things were constantly changing and bouncing around. The story was changing, especially a lot of real world stuff and the finale. There was a lot of experimentation going on and kind of trying different things. We too at one point had 10 episodes planned and we ended up crashing a couple of them, you know just to make the beat feel a little better. But yeah, they constantly changed and then sure enough once we were done in Atlanta the pandemic hit and we ended up having months off so other changes where we were doing post production and then ideas would come up and small changes would happen as a result. “

Some might argue WandaVision does very well with nine episodes, but there certainly would have been interest in a tenth episode. What would be WandaVision looks like ten episodes? Maybe more time could have been spent on Agatha’s story (which some thought was a bit rushed), or characters like Jimmy Woo (Randall Park) and Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings) could have spent a little more. time on the screen. An additional episode certainly sounds appealing, but to keep the momentum going, WandaVision necessary to downsize. In the end, it could have been the wisest decision.

There were brief rumors suggesting WandaVision reportedly has a Secret Episode 10, which will likely be released this week. Shakman debunked that, and now, after watching Episode 9, it’s safe to say that he really wrapped up the story that was being told, so there’s no need for another. Of course, the WandaVision finale left a few threads hanging in the air for future MCU projects, but in the case of this story on Wanda and Vision, the book has been closed. Still, fans will likely be wondering what this 10th episode would have been like for a while.
