Who needs Vision to pop the ukulele and sing “Old MacDonald Had a Farm” when you can listen to the Marvel Studios soundtrack WandaVision instead of? Walt Disney Records is now out WandaVision: Episode 1 Soundtrack and WandaVision: Episode 2 Soundtrack, featuring the instrumental scores of the latest installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The digital soundtracks feature the score by composer Christophe Beck (Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man and the Wasp) and the original themed songs are by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez (Frozen). The Oscar-winning songwriters wrote unique songs for several episodes of the series, ranging from the 1950s to the early 2000s.

Beck composed and produced all the scores for each WandaVision album. Of composing unique scores for all nine episodes, Beck said, “For each era, the music is a loving tribute to the typical sitcom scores of that era. This involved not only the instrumentation, but also the style of composition.

According to Beck, the score features instruments typical of the era represented in a given episode. The first episodes feature small orchestral ensembles, while later episodes adopt a rock-pop style. Beck also used period-specific recording and mixing techniques to achieve the authenticity the filmmakers wanted.

In addition to writing the theme and songs, Anderson-Lopez and Lopez also produced each song. The theme of the first episode, Anderson-Lopez said, was written to evoke the dawn of television. “We wanted to have a bunch of upbeat voices singing with jazz (but not too much!) About the love between these two – and the main question of the first episode, if two Avengers in love can pass for normal in a typical American suburb,” she said.

Lopez described the theme of the second episode as “sexier” and “more flirtatious.” “We decided to put in a lot of steamy trombones to comment,” he says, “and in one part we also used my favorite 60s keyboard sound, the RMI Rock-si-Chord – kind of electric organ harpsichord.
