The first five episodes of WandaVision are now available to watch on Disney + and the latter two feature Kat Dennings as Darcy Lewis. This marks the first time Dennings has been in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since Thor: The Dark World was released in 2013. Dennings joins the MCU during one of its most ambitious projects. In fact, she recently said Additional TV that she thought the idea was “crazy” when she heard the pitch for the first time.
In the interview, Dennings explains that her first meeting for the series was in “a top secret conference room” and that she had to sign many NDAs before entering. She added that the walls were “covered with sitcom references” as well as comics. “I was just like ‘How are you going to do that? This is madness. This concept, I had never heard of it before. ‘ Sure, they did it incredibly well, but it’s hard to explain. Dennings goes on to say that the ‘testimonial of the show’ is the fact that her mother, who has never seen an Avengers movie, loves her. You can watch the full interview in the video below:
Dennings fans will be delighted to hear that Darcy will likely appear in other upcoming Marvel projects. “There are things I did for Marvel that are coming out that aren’t [WandaVision]. But I probably can’t say, “Dennings said Additional. “We’re just going to stop there.”
Recently, Dennings addressed the Keep it podcast on WandaVision and revealed that Darcy’s role was originally meant to be a few scenes, but her friendship with Natalie Portman (Jane Foster) inspired more of it.
“Because Natalie and I are already friends, I remember it exactly,” Dennings shared. “I walk around the room and I am very shy. I walked in and sat down and Natalie hadn’t arrived yet and everyone was so nice. Natalie came in and sat on my lap because we’re friends. I think our friendship started to infect them [like] his purity and his love. Slowly Darcy got more involved, and I was like, “Why did they add me to scenes?” She added, “If I’m being honest, the magic of friendship is why I’m here today.
