Microsoft’s new Surface 4 laptop – due to debut in April – will offer AMD and Intel processor options side-by-side, according to a report by German news site WinFuture.

With the 2020 Surface Laptop 3, only the larger 15-inch model had an AMD option – the smaller 13.5-inch version was Intel-only. But this year, with Surface Laptop 4, WinFuture says the Ryzen 5 4680U and Ryzen 7 4980U “Surface Edition” processors – slightly modified for Microsoft’s tight vertical integration – will also be available in smaller Surface 13.5 laptops. inches.

Both Ryzen processors include integrated Vega graphics, and Surface models are expected to include up to 16GB RAM and up to 512GB SSD – although it’s not yet clear whether the latter two will be plugged in or soldered. . These Ryzen models will compete with the Intel i5-1145G7 and i7-1185G7 Tiger Lake processors with Iris Plus 950 graphics; Tiger Lake models are expected to offer up to 32 GB of RAM and 1 TB of SSD.

We have to point out that, so far, this is still a rumor – this information is based only on a datasheet that WinFuture says it received from an anonymous dealer. Assuming the rumors unfold, that’s good news for anyone wanting a heavier multi-core punch in a new Surface laptop.
