Warhammer 40K Astartes Fan Project Leads Games Workshop To Create New Official Animations

Astartes is a fan-made animated series that follows a squad of Space Marines as they complete one of their bloody missions in the Warhammer 40,000 franchise. The project was created by Syama Pedersen and has racked up millions of views on YouTube. Games Workshop took note of the success of the project and hired Pedersen into the team. Now, a wave of new official Warhammer animations is on the way, which is an exciting prospect for fans of Astartes“Painstakingly animated action.

There is a rich history of Warhammer fan projects going official as Games Workshop notices animators and filmmakers putting their take on the long-running franchise to YouTube. Richard Boylan, a film designer at Electronic Arts, has released projects like Helsreach and Guardian on Youtube. It turned into Angels of death, an upcoming series after the Blood Angels Space Marines. This is the first show of Warhammer Storyforge.

Pedersen is currently working on a follow-up of Astartes as part of the Warhammer Animation Team. There are other projects recently announced under this umbrella. Lost Legion Studios is working on Exodite, a story about the T’au, an emerging empire in the service of a philosophy called the greatest good. Paxel Art is working on Primaris: the last templar, which follows the Black Templars. In the meantime, Iron inside comes from Codex Film, showing the Iron Warriors in action against the Drukthari, also known as Dark Eldar.

There is definitely a demand for all of these Warhammer 40K media, with sets like the Limited Edition Unusual sell immediately. Big Light Productions, the team behind Amazon The Man of the High Castle, is developing a live show based on Dan Abnett’s Eisnhorn novels.
