The New York Times reported on Thursday that Harris had stated his support for the repair in a statement after agreeing with a radio presenter last week that repairs were needed.

"We must be honest, the people of this country do not leave the same place and do not have access to the same opportunities," Harris said in a statement. "I am serious about taking an approach that would change policies and structures and make real investments in black communities."
Warren also said that she supported the repairs, according to the Times, although his campaign refused to provide more details to the newspaper.
The Hill solicited comments from both campaigns.
Warren and Harris are both candidates for the Democratic nomination for the presidency in 2020 and the Times pointed out that previous Democratic presidential candidates had not supported the reparations.
