Elizabeth Warren, a Democratic senator from Massachusetts, is expected to announce Tuesday a plan that would fund universal custody by tapping into income from her wealth tax proposal, the article said.
The outline of the plan – which would cover 12 million children – would mean that no family should spend more than seven percent of their household's total income, according to The Huffington Post, which had first announced this ad. The report indicates that the number is based on a number from the Department of Health and Social Services on what is termed affordable child care.
The plan is still under development, but sources told the media that they were expecting new funding of about $ 700 billion over 10 years, four times the amount paid by the federal government for these programs.
The Wall Street Journal reported that the average family pays $ 7,200 a year in day care.
The Democrat of Massachusetts, presidential candidate of 2020, would use a portion of the revenues of its proposed tax on the ultra-rich to fund the plan. His plan calls for a 2% household wealth tax of more than $ 50 million and an additional 1% tax on those over $ 1 billion.
